Beyond Cultural Competence in 2026: Current and Emerging Considerations for Clinicians Working with Hispanic/Latinx Clients
In honor of National Hispanic American Heritage Month. This free 60-minute live webinar examines current and emerging considerations for clinicians working with Hispanic and Latinx clients in 2026. Moving beyond a checklist-based view of cultural competence, the training emphasizes cultural humility, reflexivity, and the therapeutic relationship. Participants will explore how acculturation, familismo, gender-role expectations, immigration-related experiences, identity, intersectionality, stigma, trauma, and systemic barriers may shape help-seeking, engagement, assessment, and treatment. The presenter will connect these factors to practical, ethically grounded strategies for culturally responsive and trauma-informed care. Clinical examples and guided reflection will help social workers and other mental health professionals examine assumptions, strengthen collaborative case conceptualization, and adapt communication and interventions without stereotyping or treating Latinx communities as culturally uniform. The session is designed for professionals serving individuals, couples, and families across clinical and community settings.
